Deidra Murphy Steed

Deidra Murphy Steed is a professional educator with 35 years of experience in education, including classroom and administrative experience. Deidra holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wake Forest University. 

Mrs. Steed’s professional experience is Pre-K through 12th grade. Deidra has experience with leadership at the school, district, and state levels. She has experience teaching all grades K-8 as well as instructional facilitator experience coaching teachers. Believing that ALL students can be successful, Mrs. Steed has vast experience in data-driven instruction, strategic planning, and differentiated teaching and learning. Additionally, Mrs. Steed had district administrative leadership experience as a Beginning Teacher Coordinator, Elementary Director, and Academically and Intellectually Gifted Director. Deidra has much experience with curriculum mapping, creating instructional guides and resources, improvement process development and coaching both principals and teachers. 

Concurrent with her school experience, Deidra worked for several years as a state-level leader with the North Carolina Teacher Academy, where she created and provided staff development in the areas of differentiation (Multiple Intelligences, Cooperative Learning, Learning Styles, and Brain-Based Learning) and reading professional development as a North Carolina State Literacy Facilitator. 

Mrs. Steed holds various certifications and licenses, including National Board Certification in Early Childhood, K-6 licensure, and Academically and Intellectually Gifted Licensure (K-12). Deidra has a state-level Master Literacy Trainer Certification and National Dunn and Dunn Learning Styles Certification. She also holds a state-level Eric Jensen brain-based learning and Hill Rap certifications. Mrs. Steed received training from top differentiation experts such as David Lazear (multiple intelligences), Eric Jensen, David Sousa, Pat Wolfe (brain-based learning), Roger Johnson (cooperative learning), and Carol Ann Tomlinson (differentiation). 

Mrs. Steed resides in North Carolina with her husband, four children, son-in-law, and two fabulous grandchildren. Deidra comes from a family that was passionate about education and the tradition continues with her older daughter as a district literacy coach and another daughter as a high school science teacher. Mrs. Steed enjoys reading, swimming, and traveling with her family.
